Girard Ave

Girard Avenue Covered Market

A thorough study of the land use, typologies, and thresholds that define the site located in North Philadelphia provides a refined focus on the area enclosed by Girard Ave, Ridge Ave, and Broad St. A portion 15th will be converted into a pedestrian zone equipped with a public square, covered market, community hall, and community gardens. The covered market is the main attraction inside the newly revived strip. Using the “ribbon” as a metaphor to program the market, two interior zones and two exterior zones are formed and linked. Pivoting panels enclose the market, creating a permeable space that allows circulation of the strip to continue through the market.

Located on 15th St between Poplar and Ogden in North Philadelphia.
